Riverfront Progress 2022

2022 has been a year of prepping and planning. The Riverfront at Royersford has migrated beyond a vision and the reality of this community transforming project is coming into view. Throughout the summer, milestones have been reached in the form of upgrades to existing buildings, site surveying, partner consultation, municipal meetings and approvals.

The original Foundry at 155 Railroad Plaza, home of the Buckwalter Stove Company since the early 1800s, has been completely cleaned and is being prepared for an exciting new tenant which will be announced in the coming weeks. The brick & beam building is also being improved with a new standing-seam metal roof and black windows that overlook a serene stretch of the Schuylkill River and the former train trestle that was rescued from demolition.

The former train trestle, which once connected Spring City, Chester County with Royersford, Montgomery County, will become a recreational overpass and that project will begin in earnest in the coming weeks. Just this week, the massive debris that had collected along the bottom of the piers was removed—a major undertaking. The Borough will build a connecting trail to Main Street and, once the trestle is rebuilt, cyclists and pedestrians on the Schuylkill River Trail can visit everything Riverfront at Royersford has to offer.

Initial focus is on restoring the Foundry building while civil site work commences on the location of the nearly 200 apartments, retail and restaurant locations. Future phases will commence in the spring of 2023 which will further promote the interaction with the river, enhance the community experience and bring new life to the riverfront.
